On the Aventine hill in the Middle Ages there were built the churches of Santa Sabina, the Saints Boniface and Alexius , and Santa Prisca . We admire also the Orange Garden which offers a lovely view over Rome. Where now it is the garden stood the fortress of the Savelli family who lived in even Pope Honorius IV was built in the 80s of the XIII century, perhaps on an existing fortification Crescenzi X century .
We visit the Square of the Knights of Malta settled in 1765 by Giovan Battista Piranesi , which takes its name from the Villa of the Priory of Malta , home of the Priory of the Order of the Knights of Malta.
Aventin Hill is famous for keyhole. The keyhole vista lines up perfectly with the garden of Villa of the Priority of Malta, centered on the Vatican in the distance.
The second part of the visit is Basilica St. Clemente which consists of a lower and an upper church. The lowest is the oldest ( Roman villa, and the pagan altar) , followed by the second level ( with medieval frescoes) and the uppermost church the most recent: from the height of the Middle Ages.
In the end we explore Church of SS. Quattro Coronati with its stunning chapel.
